Devastated by the loss of her friend and under constant threat from an unknown spy at Cimmeria Academy, Allie Sheridan is finding it hard to cope.

In Fracture, the third book in the Night School series, she’s not the only one losing it – everything is falling apart. And when Nathaniel begins to reveal his game plan, Isabelle starts to lose control.

As the school slides into a deadly morass of paranoia and suspicion, everyone is guilty until proved innocent. Anyone can be held without proof, and convicted without a trial. No one is safe.

This time Nathaniel doesn’t need to hurt them. This time they’re hurting themselves.

*There are going to be spoilers from Legacy in this review*
Nobody around here is really innocent.
This book started off great. We finally get to see Allie's rebellious side. I wanted to see that aspect of her since book one and now she's ready to take over the world. Well, she's ready to get her revenge and stop Nathaniel at least. She's grieving and angry. She acts before thinking and endanger herself and her friends. I didn't really mind her making bad decisions. She's completely messed up and needs to take actions.
However, even with all of her efforts, the plot doesn't move forward. There is a lot of skulking around with her « gang », a lot of plotting but not much else.

We learn more of Nathaniel's backstory but the main thing they do in this book is wait. They wait for him to make his move. They wait for teachers to finally do something. They wait for Raj to find the spy. I mentioned in my review of Legacy that I was suspecting a lot of characters but now I'm completely lost.

Since the second book I suspected :

- Zelazny because he was the one to tell Allie to go to Isabelle's office when Isabelle wasn't actually there, leading her to find Eloise.
- Rachel because she's the gossip queen and I thought maybe she was angry at her dad because of Night School stuff.
- Lucas because he was Gabe's close friend. Maybe they got in together.
- Carter because when (still in the 2nd book) Allie asked him about his father he hesitated and I thought maybe he's Nathaniel's hidden son.
- Jerry because of the phone call Allie and Carter overheard. He's the one I'm the most suspicious about without really knowing why. Maybe it's my detective instinct talking but I don't trust him.

The ones I don't suspect are :

- Zoe because she's immediately described as loyal.
- Katie. Even though she's the mean girl of the story, I like how honest she is. She doesn't pretend to be Allie's friend. In the second book she told her right away not to expect any kind of friendship
- And Sylvain because... I don't know … French solidarity ? I'm just kidding, I don't even like him. I think he really cares about Allie.... But if he's with Nathaniel he probably believes what he does is for her. And now I'm lost again. Okay, I'm crossing Sylvain off my « no way they're the spy » list.

Speaking of Sylvain I liked the minimal part the love triangle takes in this book. Allie questions her feelings but it doesn't take over the story like it did in the previous book. I hope she's going to make a decision soon though, I really don't want it to be dragged until the end.

Anyway, for the next book I want some action. I want to finally find out who the spy is and I want to hear Nathaniel's side of the story.

See ? That's how Detective Sherlys works ! I suspect everyone and then I pat myself on the back when I'm right. You can't go wrong with that. I don't want to spoil anything but let's just say, I'm good *coughs*.

  1. I liked that Allie was a little reckless here too, it made sense. And yes they waited on Nathaniel to make his movies- I wanted them to be WAY more proactive, you know? There are hints that Nathaniel might not be all bad, but it seems like we have to wait forever to get the backstory.

Jerry was my main suspect but at times I wondered about Zelazny too. And I loved Zoe- she's so awesome! :)

    1. Ugh, I know ! By that point I was already tired of this series. I just wanted the story to be over.
I was really disappointed about Nathaniel. He had the potential to be such a great vilain.

Haha I don't know how you managed to not become completely paranoid. Now that I think about it, maybe it's just me...
