After reading a lot of fantasy I like reading a light-hearted and humourous contemporary. Bet Me didn't disappoint me. I laughed out loud countless times while reading it, if you're looking for a fun time, I think you'll enjoy it.
The main character is an overweight actuary raised by a mother obsessed with appearances. She can't eat carbs, she can't eat sugar... you get the idea. She's insecure and just go dumped so when she hears a guy betting he can take her out to dinner and eventually sleep with her, she decides to give him a hard time.
Hilarious situations come one after another, I wasn't bored once.
The main character is bold and speaks her mind. She's definitely not one of those passive female waiting for a man to rescue her.
The male interest is quick-witted, charming and has strong opinions. I have to admit, I succumbed to his charm but I don't think a lot of people could resist I loved the chemistry between them and I loved the fact that he's not just a pretty face. Abs don't make up for everything (even though they sure help,*cough* ).
Food is also very important in the book. It made me think of the drama "Let's Eat" except that the boy isn't salivating over the food but over the girl.
Anyway, mix two characters with strong personnalities, crazy people surrounding them, great dialogues, a lot of humour and of course a cute romance and you'll have Bet Me. I recommend it for people who read a heavy topic or just want to get out of a slump.
